At La Siembra Co-op, Fair Trade and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. Our philosophy involves respect for the land and respect for those who harvest its yield. We believe that producing crops organically promotes biodiversity and thus preserves the land for future generations, ensuring the health and well-being of communities at home and abroad.

From producers to final product, La Siembra is committed to high environmental standards that minimize the impact of our products and activities on the environment:

• All of our ingredients are organic;
• Our cocoa is shade grown;
• Our retail product packaging is made from recycled material;
• Our chocolate bars are packaged in polypropylene inner wrappers that are produced using significantly less non-renewable resources than traditional aluminum wrappers;
• Our marketing materials are printed with vegetable-based inks on acid-free paper;
• We source hemp/organic cotton T-shirts for staff members;
• We use recycled products wherever possible, including recycled promotional materials, packaging and office supplies;
• We source materials from green-oriented businesses wherever possible;
• We employ the services of an environmentally-friendly green cleaning company;
• We are located in downtown Ottawa so as to make public and self-propelled transport an option for our employees.
