Our Worker-Owned Co-operative

La Siembra Co-operative is the pioneer of Fair Trade Certified organic cocoa and sugar products in North America and Canada’s fastest growing for-profit Fair Trade co-operative. Our co-op is renowned for its premium quality products, ethical and rigorous management practices and avant-garde approach to business.

Based in Ottawa-Gatineau, La Siembra is a worker-owned co-operative that is controlled democratically by its workers. Employees are eligible to become member-owners after six months. Membership is open and voluntary and requires that workers (a) invest in the co-op financially and (b) participate in its governance. We currently have 20 employees, of which 10 are worker-owners.

Our Investors

To finance our growth we also raise equity from external investors who support our mission. We currently have over 150 external shareholders. By becoming a La Siembra investor, you can help La Siembra to expand its current operations, develop its range of Fair Trade products and improve the livelihoods of farmer families and the well being of communities in the Caribbean and South America.
